Invoicing & Payment Fees, Explained

Send invoices with an online payment link, get paid by card or bank, and know exactly what each payment costs and when the money reaches your bank.

Sending Invoices

Create customer invoices under Sales → Invoices. When you send an invoice, it goes out with an online payment link — your customer opens the link and pays without needing an account. Today, invoice payment links accept online card payments.

You can also record a payment received outside the platform — cash, check, or an external transfer — against any invoice to mark it paid.

Payment Processing Fees

The processing fee is a flat rate with two card prices: one for cards paid on an invoice, online or keyed in, and a lower one for cards tapped, inserted or swiped on a terminal:

Payment methodFee
Card on an invoice, online or keyed in (Visa, Mastercard, Discover)2.65% + 25¢
Card in person on a terminal (Visa, Mastercard, Discover)2.5% + 10¢
American Express (invoice / in person)3.15% + 25¢ / 3% + 10¢
Bank payment (ACH)1%, capped at $10, 50¢ minimum

Monthly and other fees

  • $3.50 a month regulatory fee, set by the card processor.
  • A $20 monthly minimum in processing fees — it applies only in a month your processing fees come to less than $20.
  • PCI compliance program (set by the card processor): $119.00 per year
  • PCI non-compliance fee: $29.95 each month the yearly PCI questionnaire is not complete
  • Chargeback fee: $25.00 per disputed card payment
  • Retrieval request fee: $15.00 per request for a copy of a card receipt
  • ACH return fee: $10.00 per returned bank payment (NSF, closed account)
  • Rejected account debit: $25.00 each time the processor cannot collect its fees from your bank account

No voice authorization fee, address verification (avs) fee, batch settlement fee, setup fee, monthly account fee, gateway monthly fee, gateway transaction fee, card tokenization fee, pos platform fee, application fee, statement fee, annual membership fee, equipment rental fee, early termination fee. Your exact rates are confirmed on the merchant application you sign when you turn on payments.

Processing a high card volume? Interchange-plus pricing passes through what each card actually costs plus a small markup, and a payments specialist quotes it from your volume and recent statements. Request an interchange-plus quote.

How Payouts Work

When a customer pays, the processing fee is deducted automatically before the deposit reaches your bank account — there's no separate fee invoice to reconcile. For a $100 invoice paid by card, you receive $97.10.

When the money arrives: card payments, online or in person, reach your bank the next business day. Bank payments (ACH) take up to 5 business days, and often less. Business days leave out weekends and bank holidays.

Track deposits under Sales → Payouts. A payment shows as pending until it lands.

Payments Received Outside the Platform

Recording a payment you received outside the platform — cash, a paper check, or an external bank transfer — has no processing fee. You're just marking the invoice paid; no money moves through the payment processor.

Refunds and Fees

Refunds are free, but the original processing fee is not returned — the card networks keep their share of a payment even when it is refunded.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the rate different for in-person payments?

Yes. A card tapped, inserted or swiped on a terminal costs 2.5% + 10¢; a card paid on an invoice, online or keyed in costs 2.65% + 25¢.

Who pays the processing fee — me or my customer?

You do: the fee is deducted from the payment before it reaches your bank account. If your state allows it, you can choose to pass card fees to customers instead.

Can my customers pay by bank transfer instead of card?

Yes, when bank payments are turned on: 1%, capped at $10, 50¢ minimum. You can also record a payment received outside the platform — a check or a direct transfer — with no fee.

Where does the money land after a customer pays?

In your bank account, after the processing fee is deducted: the next business day for a card payment, up to 5 business days for a bank payment. See deposits under Sales → Payouts.
